Itinerary

Day 1

Yogyakarta is situated almost exactly halfway along the length of Java, in an area considered to be the heartland of the Javanese; Yogyakarta is home to some of the island’s oldest traditions and blessed with a rich, fertile soil from the volcanic ash.

It is the cultural capital of Java, with a real mixture of cultural influences, including Hindu and Buddhist temples, dating back to the 8th century, Islamic Palaces from the 18th century and Dutch colonial architecture that harks back to the days when the Netherlands held much of Java in its imperialistic grip.

Day 2

In Yogyakarta (Jogja) a there is a variety of activities: make a city-tour by becak (cycle taxi) and stop by the famous Kraton of the sultan of Yogyakarta. Or visit a wayang kulit and batik factory, to see how these artforms from Jogja are manufactured.

Jogja is a perfect city to shop around for authentic souvenirs.

In the afternoon we leave for Borobudur Temple. The Borobudur is one of the biggest Buddhist temples in the world and is listed on the World Heritage List of UNESCO. The Borobudur was built around the 8th century and remains an important temple for its believers until today. Back to Yogyakarta and the rest of your evening is free at leisure.

Day 3

In the morning you will do a bike trip around Jogja. Cycling through the villages and rice fields while your guide will show you several different home industries that are present here.

Tofu, tempe, krupuk, cassava and even bricks are in small scale factories in people’s homes. The bike tour will start in the fresh morning when most local people are at work in the field or home factory.

In the afternoon you will leave for the Prambanan temple complex. This temple is little bit younger than Borobudur and the biggest Hindu Temple in Indonesia.

There are 3 main temples and the biggest reaches a height of 47 Meters. Surrounding these main temples are the ruins of more than 220 ‘Pewara’ (small temples), some of them are currently being renovated.

Day 4

Today you will go for an adventure.

We take a train to Jombang / Mojokerto. This is a great way to see a lot of the countryside and to get in touch with the local people. You travel in Executive class with air – conditioning.

Upon arrival in Jombang/Mojokerto, our driver is waiting for you and will bring you to your hotel in Malang. The drive will be around two hours.

Day 5

Embark on a journey to Tumpak Sewu Waterfall, a natural nestled in the landscapes of East Java, Indonesia.

Known as the “Thousand Waterfalls,” Tumpak Sewu is a cascade that plunges from lush green cliffs, creating a stunning curtain of water. To reach the waterfall, you will navigate through trails surrounded by tropical vegetation. Feel the cool mist from the waterfall as you take in the mesmerizing views and perhaps capture the moment with memorable photographs.

The next stop will be the vibrant village called “Jodipan”.

This village is also known as the Rainbow Village and is conveniently located just a 15–20-minute walk from the Malang train station. Upon stepping foot here, you’ll be mesmerized by the dynamic colors that adorn the entire scenery, resembling a kaleidoscope.

While exploring the streets of Jodipan in East Java, you will observe that every building is embellished with vivid colors, spanning from cheerful yellows to striking blues and vibrant reds. This remarkable transformation has breathed new life into the village, embodying themes of hope, unity, and creativity.

After this visit you will be brought back to your hotel.

Day 6

Today we go for an adventure! The car takes you to Tumpang, a small village south of Mount Bromo where you will board an open jeep.

The jeep will take you through beautiful scenery, you will visit a waterfall and finally you arrive at the ‘sand sea’ surrounding Bromo.

The jeep descends and brings you spectacularly to your hotel at the crater-rim. It has fantastic views of Mount Bromo and the crater and you will truly feel like you are in another world!

Day 7

Today is an early start, you want to be in time for the spectacular sunrise on the crater rim of Mount Bromo.

You can get there on foot, by horse or by jeep. In first daylight the scenery looks like a lunar landscape.

We returned to the hotel for breakfast and afterwards drove to Kalibaru. Here you will stay in a hotel on a plantation.

Day 8

Today the drive takes you into the mountains to a resort with a beautiful view of Ijen volcano. This is a haven of peace and quiet.

Ijen volcano has a giant caldera that is 20 km wide at some points. There is a blue lake inside and on its shore there are numerous sulfur- wells. Every day porters descend into the caldera to get sulfur and carry it downhill. Some of them carry up to 120 kg.

Day 9

Early in the morning you leave for pos Paltuding to climb Ijen volcano by car.

It is not an easy climb but if you stick to it, you will be rewarded. Maybe it helps to think of the porters that descend to the sulfur mine every day and have to climb up with heavy loads (some of them carry up to 120 kg).

The climb takes about 2,5 hours.

After this you drive back to the hotel and have a hearty breakfast. We descend to the coast and take the ferry to the end point of this trip, which will be in Pemuteran, Bali.
